The Japanese government has responded to concerns over the burden the demographic changes place on the economy by launching policies to restore fertility rate. Architects and city planners are forced to expand their imagination to come up with bold, modern, and most importantly, space-saving ways to bury the dead. And Japan has seen perhaps the most dramatic changes to its burial scene. Since the Edo period, inherited graves and urban cemetery spots have been passed down through the generations of a family. Upon swiping an electronic pass card to enter, the doors swish open unveiling a dazzling display of over 2,000 LED-lit Buddha statues, which guide visitors to the place that houses their loved one’s remains. After 30 years of display, the remains will be moved to a communal area under the cemetery to save room for incoming remains. But don’t worry. You are still able to see the ashes of the deceased. When you swipe the card, a machine automatically fetches the corresponding ashes from the underground library and transports them to the appropriate room for you to remember your departed loved ones. 位在東京繁忙購物區新宿的一座靈骨塔就是一個順應現代日本的高科技選擇。這座靈骨塔是以電子刷卡進出，門一打開，映入眼簾的是耀眼的2千座由LED燈照亮的佛像，引導參訪者到自己家人骨灰的位置。在擺放30年後，這些骨灰罈會被移到墓地底下的公共區，以留下空間給之後移入的往生者骨灰。但別擔心，你還是可以探望已故者的骨灰。當你刷卡後，有個機器會自動從地下庫房取出對應的骨灰罈，再將骨灰罈送到適當的房間，讓你回憶你的已逝親人。 |
