Taiwan Manufacturing Sector Grows 5.72% in Q4 製造業去年第4季產值成長5.72% Taiwan’s manufacturing sector snapped a seven-quarter losing streak in production value in the fourth quarter last year, driven by robust growth of the country’s electronic components industry, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said. 經濟部表示，受電子零組件業穩健成長推動，台灣製造業去年第4季中止連7季下跌的記錄。 In the October-December period, the output of the manufacturing sector increased 5.72 percent from a year earlier to NT$3.26 trillion (US$105.86 billion), rebounding from a 1.38 percent year-on-year decline in the third quarter. 去年10月至12月期間，製造部門的產值年增5.72%，總計新台幣3.26兆元（105.86兆美元），與去年第3季的年衰退率1.38%相較下有所回升。 The electronic components industry helped boost the manufacturing sector’s total output, as the launch of new mobile devices stimulated buying at a time when global demand was recovering, the ministry said. 經濟部表示，電子零組件業幫助提升了製造部門的整體產值，同時，隨全球需求量恢復，行動裝置新品接連上市刺激買氣也帶動製造部門的成長。 The electronic components industry posted NT$959 billion in production value in the fourth quarter, up 9.21 percent from a year earlier, the ministry said, adding that the semiconductor business was a major contributor to overall growth. 經濟部說，電子零組件業第4季產值達9590億，年增9.21%，並補充半導體業是製造業整體產值收紅的主要推手。 Local semiconductor firms’ production totaled NT$352 billion in the fourth quarter, a record quarterly high and an annual surge of 26.12 percent, whereas the output of flat-panel manufacturers rose 10.45 percent year-on-year to NT$239.6 billion following a recovery in product prices. 台灣半導體公司去年第4季產值總計3520億元，為史上單季最高，年增26.12%，而液晶面板業因產品價格回升，年增10.45%，產值2396億台幣。 The outlook for the manufacturing sector this quarter is positive. Improved momentum seen in the manufacturing sector towards the end of 2016 is expected to be sustained into 2017, given that global demand for electronic devices remains solid in the first quarter of this year, the ministry said. 製造業本季前景看好。經濟部表示，2016年年底的回升動力預期將持續到2017年，有鑑於今年第1季電子產品全球需求量穩健。 |
